Bert Miano

Bert is a seasoned and talented litigator with more than 20 years of trial experience representing businesses and individuals in all types of complex and class litigation. He joined the firm as an Attorney in June 2017. Following a federal judicial clerkship, Bert’s practice began with a large national management-side firm, where he worked in all areas of labor and employment law, including counseling and litigation involving age, sex and race-based discrimination, sexual harassment, wage & hour, non-compete agreements, and executive compensation.

Since 2005, Bert has managed a boutique litigation firm specializing in representing plaintiffs in employment and consumer fraud cases, both individual and class actions. He has tried, arbitrated or mediated dozens of cases to conclusion, argued successfully before the Supreme Court of Alabama, and handled successful appeals before the Eleventh and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeal, as well as state appellate courts in Alabama and California. He is a member of the State Bars of North Carolina, California and Alabama, and has held the AV-rating from Martindale Hubbell for more than 14 years. Before going to law school in Birmingham, Alabama, Bert earned a BLS in English Literature and honed his writing skills during stints as a political speechwriter in Washington, DC and as a reporter and business editor at Mississippi’s largest weekly newspaper. While at law school, Bert served as Editor-in- Chief of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy.

Bert lives in Charlotte with his wife, with whom he has three children, the youngest of whom is a sophomore in high school. His son is a sophomore at UNC-Chapel Hill, and his older daughter is a nursing student in Asheville. He is actively involved in several charitable organizations, primarily those focusing on ending homelessness and promoting social justice.
